Strange things from Thailand, just a few of the odd things I have collected over the years, adding more when I find what I have done with them!
With a slow connection, this page will take ages to download.

Any examples? please send them to me by email.

Darkie toothpaste has gone from the shelves in a fit of political correctness, now re-named Darlie and with a slightly different picture on the label. For some reason this process did not extend as far as the Black Man range of kitchen products, which remain available in all supermarkets.
My "tinted" Caribbean friend Clinton has a Black Man chopping block displayed in his kitchen in the UK!

Still available in Foodland and The Emporium, the good old "Black Man" brand of household products!

In my experience the girls in Phuket are slightly more attractive!

Thanks to "Wee" Jon Wood for this one!

Probably the only truthful sign in Soi Cowboy, Bangkok

(we know what they mean though......)

The absolute best example of Thai/English ever!!

Any further comment would be superfluous!!

A hand-out from a bar in Soi Diamond in Pattaya

Beer at 44 Baht, those were the days!

This place was a complete dump, the only show I ever saw in there were 2 girls wrestling in a child's inflatable paddling pool whilst covered in palm cooking oil, as mentioned elsewhere, as sexy as watching Margaret Rutherford on the toilet.

The name says it all!

Not only have I never been there, I don't know anyone who has either (allegedly!).

Dancer's badges, these 2 are out of business now!

Coaster/Beer Mat

Interesting detail from the leaflet given to me at The Julie Hotel in Pattaya.

I'll pass on the rock tickling thanks!

Sign in Patpong

Bag of sweets from Villa Market

Fanny seems to have disappeared from sale, I haven't seen any for ages

Baimai JEWELLY!

Thanks to Dave Fellows for the picture.

100s dead, but business first in Phuket!

Bar in Phuket, taken within 6 months of the tsunami!

"We The Theme Produce Of Rope"

Absolutely no idea what this is meant to mean!
We The Theme Produce Of Rope
Thanks to David Martin for the picture.

What makes this extract from an Aikido school advertisement funny is that it is from the toilet wall in the Suzi Wong bar, Soi Cowboy - the toilet is quite a good place to have fluid, circular and continuous movements!

Genuine Advert from Phuket Gazette magazine  June 2003

BARGIRL FOR SALE.
No key money, just take over payments. Great exterior condition. Attitude may need slight adjustment. Will cook if hungry. Will clean for jewellery. Expert in hand phone operation, sofa management and budget mishandling. Genuine reason for sale - owner bankrupt! Call now, this offer won't last.
(I have removed the phone number!)

These road safety placards were placed along the roadside on major routes, but caused more accidents as passing drivers tried to read the captions. This is one of a series, but as they are all removed now, I am unlikely to find examples of some of the other ones. This caption is about not driving like a snake!

It seems as if my views on golfers are not unique!               Thanks to R. Chapman!

Makes about as much sense as "Do Not Throw Stones At This Notice"!
I am not sure what they were trying to get at with this!

from the Hong Kong/China ferry terminal in Canton Road, Kowloon.

You can't blame the Thais for this, it's from China, but bought in Bangkok

Instructions from the back of the box of a Chinese "Treasure Beckoning Cat"!
Menus

You can't beat these popular dishes!

CRAP!

My absolute favourite!, very tasty!

The well-known "Horseface Loach Fish"!

That old favourite, the Rain-Blow trout!

Absolutely no idea what Poke on Toasted is!

Steamed Nails from Vietnam!

The famous "Harley Walibanger" cocktail

Taurus Brew House in Terminal 2 Don Muang Airport, Bangkok

Vigilant Thai-Style security

Office equipment shop between Sukhumvit 20 & 22, and it was only 15:55!

Cerabtate New Year 2004 with me!

Advert from Bangkok Post, their latest adverts seem to have been proof read!
Maybe not all Thais are as friendly as I had thought!

Thanks to Siew Loh for this one!

I can't remember where I was when I saw this, but unless you want to be blasted with a Soda Water Siphon, don't take advantage of the "free" offer!

A selection of "Thai Style" Printed T Shirts!

This happy restaurant worker was convinced she was a "Special Lady"!!

"Only a thing pleasant all the year round is dome"

Nobody likes a smelly box!

"I Like Form To Beau Myself In Your Softwa"

Your guess is as good as mine on this one!

Just to confuse matters, it is a girl!

Thanks to Darryl Easton for this one.

I have often though I was in the "Twiligh Zone"

From a vehicle badge at the 2004 Bangkok Motor Expo at Impact, Muang Tong Thani.

A "Tinglish" masterpiece!!

"The concept of our design is black color is the best matching with our product.
Because fine black color marks the most beaetitul shape that have."

This vehicle badge is on the front of most models from a fairly large company that sells customised Toyotas as well as importing rare vehicles. Fills you with confidence! This picture from 2004, Bangkok Motor Show 2005 showed they were still using the same wording. I sought out a company representative who spoke English, and told him the wording is not in proper English, with a scornful look, he told me it wasn't English, it was German!

Hooray! after at least 3 years of putting this drivel on their expensive cars, a breakthrough, a new badge appears on the models on show at Motor Expo 2006:-

Another AWARB for MAZDA!

Bangkok Motor Show 25th March 2005

Nice amazingly large sign on the official Mazda stand!

They certainly get my AWARB!

Outside Country Road, Soi Cowboy

December 2004
From the Thigh Bar in Patpong 1

Not that funny, but you would think that they should know that the bar is called Thigh Bar and NOT Thai Bar!

Washington Square, Bangkok
A sign in Chiang Mai Airport
